Frequently asked questions

Where will my donation go?

One hundred percent of your gift will go directly to The University of Manchester - you can find out more on our homepage. Gifts to our Emergency Hardship Fund will directly support Manchester students who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus. That could include providing urgent grants to students in need, extending bursary support to help more students, or supporting students who are struggling to access online learning at home.

Is my help still needed?

Absolutely! Whilst our incredible community has already built a £1 million emergency fund, we know that many more students will find themselves struggling over the coming months.

With the number of students facing hardship from the coronavirus pandemic continuing to rise, your support will enable us to help even more students. And you’ll help us extend support to students due to start at Manchester in September, giving them the confidence that help is waiting for them.

No matter how big or small, your gift will give a helping hand to those Manchester students who need it most.

Can I see my gift on this website?

Yes! If you’ve chosen not to make your gift anonymous, you can take a look at the donor wall to see your name.

Is there a minimum donation?

Absolutely not. Any gift, regardless of how large or small, will make a real difference to Manchester students in need.

Whatever you’re able to give is valued and appreciated.

How can I give my gift?

You can give your gift quickly and easily by using this website – thank you.

Is there another way to donate to you other than online?

If you are able to, please make your gift online. It’s quick, easy and secure, and your donation will be added to our running total right away. We’ll acknowledge your gift as soon as we receive it.

If you’re not able to donate online, you can send us a cheque made payable to ‘The University of Manchester’. Your cheque will be gratefully received, but it may take us a little longer than normal to process your gift and send an acknowledgement. We hope you’ll understand.

Cheques should be sent to Division of Development and Alumni Relations, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL. Please don’t forget to include your details so we know who to thank!

For any queries, please contact us at supporters@manchester.ac.uk.

Can I make a regular gift to support Manchester students?

If you would like to make a regular gift to support Manchester students, you can do so on The University of Manchester’s online giving page: www.manchester.ac.uk/collaborate/give/donate/regular-donation/.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a tax relief available to UK registered charities, and exempt charities like The University of Manchester. It boosts gifts by 25%. For your gift to qualify, you must be a UK taxpayer. We’ll use the reclaimed tax to add to your donation and support even more students.

When you make a gift, we will ask you for all the details required. We will then claim back the Gift Aid tax relief – there’s nothing else you need to do.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments through The University of Manchester Emergency Hardship Fund website will be securely processed by Stripe www.stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Why is my payment not going through?

Please check that you have included your postcode in both the address field and the card details field of the gift form. If there is still a problem you may have to contact your card provider and inform them that the payment is valid. For any queries, please contact us at supporters@manchester.ac.uk.
